Step 8: Configure VPN
In this step, you will configure your Crime non-live and/or live VPN connection.
Prerequisites
Some of steps below will require admin permissions on your Mac which need to be requested by following this document.
To avoid having to request admin session multiple times it is worth reading ahead through the entire VPN and DNS configuration steps so you can complete all tasks in a single admin session.
Before starting this step:
- Ensure your Crime account provisioning (described in Step 3) has completed successfully
- Install Tunnelblick by following instructions in this document
- Ensure you have your OpenVPN
.ovpnsecret file ready (see Step 6 if you have not yet done this)
Add VPN Configuration to Tunnelblick
Detailed Tunnelblick setup is described in the document linked above, but here is a summary:
- Click on Tunnelblick icon in the top right menu bar
- Select “VPN Details…”
- Drag and drop your
.ovpnfile into the configurations list - Select “Only Me” when prompted
- Click on your new connection and set:
Set DNS/WINStoDo not set nameserver - Un-tick
Check if the apparent public IP address changed after connecting - Go to
Preferencesand un-tickConfiguration changes: Require administrator authorization to install all configurations(⚠️ requires admin permissions) - Click connect (⚠️ requires admin permissions)
- After initial connection using this configuration, subsequent connections will not require admin permissions
⚠️ If you have access to both non-live and live you will obtain two separate
.ovpnfiles. You will need to complete this import process for each one separately.
