Glossary

Component

An independently deployable piece of software. Synonymous with a microservice, the two terms are often used interchangeably.

Platform

A collection of environments, build pipelines, code modules, libraries and tools used to deliver working software to users.

Product

A collection of software components which form a single line of business. A single product may be built by multiple teams or multiple products may be built by a single team.

Team

A group of people who build software. It may consist of software engineers, QAs, infrastructure engineers, testers, scrum master, UX designers, content designers and many others. A single team may build many products or many teams may build a single product.
